ABOUT

After teaching high school English and creative writing for over thirty years, I retired and cycled across Canada. Cycling and hiking have taken me to Snowdonia, Mount Ventoux, Mount Ranier, The Drakensberg Ranges, the Gran Sasso d'Italia, and across the Scottish Highlands. In mid-career, my husband and I along with our two children spent a year in rural Australia, camping, walking beaches and bird watching. Never considering myself an athlete or an intrepid explorer, I heartily embrace the "just get out there and try it" ethos and believe it’s never too late to discover new spaces within yourself. My writing is inspired by landscape, wildlife, and music.
In retirement, I bask in nature and pursue an active writing life. I was the runner-up for the Hamilton Arts and Letters Short Works Prize for non-fiction both in 2023 & 2024. I'm grateful for my mentors Mark Winston (2024) and Aren X. Tulchinsky (2025). They and the other encouraging writers I've met through the Vancouver Manuscript Intensive program have helped me to revise (and revise!) drafts of my full-length memoir. I've published both fiction and poetry in small literary journals. As a younger person, I completed an M.A. in English literature, a B.Ed and an A.R.C.T. in piano performance.
Life is good to me, and I spend it reading, writing, playing music, cycling on less-travelled roads, and dreaming about babies to ogle. Currently my husband and I divide our time between living in Hamilton and Palmer Rapids, Ontario.
